Pediatric Hearing Tests

Children are commonly referred for hearing testing when there is a concern about hearing sensitivity, when there is a delay in speech development or when there are educational concerns.

We use tests that are appropriate for the age and ability of each child.

  • Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) – for infants aged 6 months to 2 years

  • Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA) – for young children aged 2 to 4 years.

  • Conventional Audiometry – for children ages 4 and older

Impedance Testing This simple test can provide information about the middle ear, eardrum and auditory nerve.

Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) A quick, simple test that assesses how well certain structures (hair cells) in the cochlea (inner ear) are working.
